Characterization (by Bas Kokshoorn): Shell very
fragile, moderately slender to broadly conical, white, largest specimen
reaching 38.4 mm in length. Length/width 1.9-2.3-2.9. Protoconch whorls
3 ½. Protoconch yellowish white, with a brown band along upper
part of the whorl. Teleoconch whorls up to 10 ¾ (height 24.5
mm), separated by a deep suture, the whorls not being detached. Teleoconch
with unevenly spaced, thin costae, damaged in all examined specimens.
Number of costae increases over number of whorls. Costae are orthocline,
except near suture where they angle to ophistocline, parallel to columella.
Outer margin of costae bend abaperturally over almost whole of their
length, except for the ophistocline part, which is erect. Costae not
coronate and touch adjoining whorls. Weak spiral lines are present,
third teleoconch whorl 9-13-16, fifth 20-33.4-56 (n=10). Third teleoconch
whorl with 14-20-28 axial costae, fifth with 14-23.3-37 axial costae
(n=9). Five mm width whorl (whorl 4-8) with 18-26.2-34 axial costae.
Aperture subcircular, columellar side flattened. Apertural length/shell
length 0.3. Umbilicus narrow. |
